How to Find a Phone Number Owner’s Name and Address

January 7th, 2012

The reasons for using a reverse cell phone search can be numerous. You may be receiving multiple calls from an unknown source, prank calls that are driving you up the wall, or need more information on a friend or colleague of whom you only know their phone number.

With cell phones being unlisted in phone books and online phone directories, and many of the other options requiring a fee to use, your ability to find the owner of any phone number for free are somewhat limited.

Of course limited does not mean impossible, and we’ll show ways to conduct this search for free.

First, let’s head over to our good pal google, and simply stick the offending phone number into the search box, ideally with quotation marks around the entire number, including area code for best results. As simple as this method may sound, it often produces great results. The reason for this is that a cell phone number may be listed on any number of different sites, for any number of reasons, and these will all show up in a search.

If you get a match, study the information, including the name and address of the person, and see if it seems to make sense with the results you were expecting. It’s entirely possible that you may get linked to outdated records, or that someone simply supplied a fake cell phone number to whichever site the link takes you to.

If the results don’t seem to make sense, or if you’re getting no results at all, it’s time to look into a more successful and proven method of tracing the number. This is through a reverse cell phone search. These services may have associated fees involved, which could involve single or long term uses, but many will also allow sample searches for free.

Why is this method so reliable? Simply put, these sites pay good money to collect phone records and establish extensive databases of listings for their customers. If anyone will have the information you need, it’ll be these guys. In addition, most of these services will also provide you with more detailed background information of the phone’s owner than other options would. Most public records involving that person will be yours for the taking.

If this service is appealing to you, you should certainly considering going with a site that charges a one time fee, rather than fees or individual or packages of searches. This will save you plenty of money down the line, and these one time fees or often very fair.

When all else fails, these methods can be used to find the owner of any phone number with a great deal of success. One popular site to find name from phone numbers is Name From Number at http://www.namefromnumber.com/.

Magic Jack Internet Phone Review

January 4th, 2012

Magic Jack is a newcomer to the VOIP (voice over internet protocol) family of internet phoning. It’s quick to install, easy to use and the price can’t be beat for making unlimited local and long distance calls in the United States and Canada. But is Magic Jack too good to be true?

Like most products, Magic Jack has it’s good points and it’s not-so-good points. It will be up to you to decide what is most important to you in internet phoning and to choose the product that should work best in your situation.

Magic Jack Pros

Low cost to try out. For $39.95 plus shipping and handling, you receive the USB device and the license to use it for unlimited local and long distance calling for one year. Each additional year is $19.95. There are also multi-year packages to purchase at a discount. International calls can be free if you are calling someone who also has the device. For example, if you have a family member that lives in another country, you can purchase a Magic Jack and mail it to them. Then you can call them for free and they can call anywhere in the US and Canada free. Includes many features such as voice mail, caller ID, call waiting, call forwarding, 411 and 911. Save on your cell phone minutes by using it to make calls from home. Uses any ordinary landline telephone, including cordless phones. Headsets and your computer microphone and speakers can also be used.

Magic Jack Cons

Your computer has to be turned on to use Magic Jack. Service can be intermittent. New company with growing pains, I don’t recommend relying on it for your only phone. Directory assistance, or 411 is advertising based if you call it from your phone. If clicking on the soft phone screen that lives on your desktop, you are taken to a web site to look up phone numbers. 911 is through a different system than the 911 you call from a regular telephone. When setting up your Magic Jack it will ask you the physical location of your phone in case of calling 911. Until this service is a lot more stable, I would not rely on their 911 in an emergency. Another reason for keeping your landline phone. If your internet service does not work during a power outage, you will be without this phone service also. Unless you have a cell phone that will work, this is another reason not to cancel your landline phone service. Make sure you keep a phone that doesn’t use electricity on hand for emergencies.

As with most or all voip services, you must have a high speed internet connection to use this service. These services include broadband, DSL, WiFi, FIOS, cable internet or WiMax. It is not recommended for use with satellite internet.

If you are interested in having a service that allows you to make free long distance calls, give Magic Jack a try. If dumping your current landline phone service is what you need, investigate the other VOIP services that are available and that have a longer track record of performance.

Delivering Voice over IP Networks, 2nd Edition

Delivering Voice over IP Networks, 2nd Edition Feature

Delivering Voice over IP Networks, 2nd Edition Overview

* Includes new coverage on the advances in signaling protocols, second-generation switching and the development of non-switched alternatives, and the implementation lessons learned.
* Contains in-depth coverage of network architectures used to support VoIP, performance and voice quality considerations, compression and integration methods for IP tranmissions.

Delivering Voice over IP Networks, 2nd Edition Specifications

Daniel and Emma Minoli–the authors of Delivering Voice over IP Networks–have written a book that begins by discussing all the issues involved in IP-based voice systems. The book discusses the IP protocol, Resource Reservation Setup Protocol (RSVP), Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), and packet voice communication. Since many factors can influence the quality of voice data transmission, there are several mathematical models that can be used to evaluate such transmissions. The authors introduce and explain each model, weighing the pros and cons. Chapter 5 covers the technology and standards (G.728, G.729, G.729A, and G.723.1) for low-bit rate vocoding. The last two chapters focus explicitly on IP voice communications and the Internet.

Ideally suited for programmers, the highly technical nature of this book makes it appropriate for serious students of voice technology. Those in the computer field who need to know not just what technology is available, but also the inner workings of voice technology, will enjoy Delivering Voice over IP Networks. –Rob Frankland

Advantages and Disadvantages of Using VoIP for Business

January 30th, 2011

As Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) becomes a mainstream technology, more and more companies adopt it as a cost-effective and flexible means for voice and data transmission. It has come a long way since it first came to mass consciousness back in 2004; it was primarily designed before as an alternative way for consumers to place and receive cheaper telephone calls using existing broadband connections instead of a public switched telephone network (PSTN).

Migrating to VoIP for business

It is always good business sense, whether in good or bad economic times, to make use of technologies that are proven and economical. VoIP certainly offers this advantage, as it has been in used in business settings for quite a while and so far has a good track record in serving the communication requirements of companies without major interruptions or breakdowns.

Known primarily for bringing down the cost of local and international long distance voice calls, VoIP has since enabled business features such as advanced call distribution and integration with customer relationship management (CRM) systems that streamline operations. Using IP PBX (private branch exchange) system for business offers savings in

• Infrastructure. The same network used for data communications is used for VoIP, removing the need for separate subscriptions to telephone and Internet service providers.

• Hardware. VoIP phone extensions are cheaper and the system can use standard desktop PCs and dual-mode cell phones as interfaces, removing the need to buy separate equipment.

• Call costs. Local calls are usually charged a flat rate while cost for long distance calls are just a fraction of the international toll rates for wired lines. This is fantastic for businesses with out-of-state or international branches or clientele, as the telephone costs are lowered significantly in VoIP.

• Maintenance cost. Data networks are less expensive to maintain compared to wired telephone systems. Adding new extensions, moving existing units and changing configurations are a lot easier and there is no need to employ separate personnel to maintain the data network and telephone system.

In addition to savings, broadband telephony offers scalability and flexibility to adapt to future needs and developments. VoIP can be configured easily to what the business presently requires, and the system can be ramped up or scaled down whenever necessary.

Disadvantages of VoIP

In the early days, adoption of VoIP was hampered by unreliable Internet connections that result in lost data packets or non-sequential arrival of packets. The missing or jumbled packets make voice calls liable for momentary audio interruptions and less than ideal call quality.

Current broadband implementations have Quality of Service protocols that aim to ensure more reliable VoIP connections, through tagging and prioritizing time-critical packets, although there is still no 100% guarantee that dropouts won’t happen. Moreover, web problems such as DoS attacks and hacking can hamper VoIP calls.

Power failures, calamities and other regional conditions may restrict availability of Internet connection, and consequently, VoIP calling. Most service providers rely on mains electrical supply to power routers and modems, and VoIP systems without backup power supply can become useless during power outages.

Today’s VoIP systems have indeed come along way. The rising VoIP migration of companies fuels further research and development, and we can look forward to more interesting features as service providers try to outdo each other in offering innovations.
